If there’s one person that loves Zara more than I do it’s my mother. If she’s not excitedly browsing their website, she’s perusing the racks IRL, or texting me photos of items she’s seen on Instagram, proclaiming, “you need to include this in a story!” At 71 she remains an ardent Zara devotee—and the Spanish brand with its grand variety of styles and trends no doubt fuels her love of fashion. And it’s safe to say the apple didn’t fall far from the tree!
While my mum and I have slightly different style aesthetics—I tend to favour neutral, fashion-forward basics and she leans into colours, prints, and embellishments—we do see eye to eye on certain styles (as you’ll see below).
So with a desire to add some new season pieces to both our wardrobes we took a little shopping excursion to Zara and surprisingly both gravitated to a handful of spring/summer trends that we’re excited to wear this season. From satin fabrics to fashion-forward orange hues, keep scrolling to see what trends both my mother and I are buying, wearing, and loving this season.
My mum and I love trousers (we tend to wear them more than dresses), and at Zara we both gravitated toward the loose and relaxed tailored styles that are everywhere right now. My mum opted for flowy drawstring pants for effortless comfort and I veered towards a high-waisted tailored silhouette. Either way, we both agree they’re perfect to dress up or down and look effortlessly elegant. Luckily, Zara has plenty of loose trouser options this season.
Minty fresh.
Perfect for Spring.
A fresh hue for summer.
You can’t go wrong with classic black.
Super versatile.
This season’s trending orange hue is a favorite of ours. It’s vibrant and fun for summer—and we both agree wearing it always makes us feel more joyful. I opted for a chic and versatile sleeveless knit that I can wear with jeans or neutrals, and my mum went for a bold, eye-catching blazer.
Bring on Summer.
This definitely brings us joy.
I love this vintage silhouette.
The perfect pop of orange your outfit needs.
I may have bought this skirt too.
Button-downs are a classic that me and my uom both own and wear a lot. So it’s not surprising we’re loving the slightly oversize versions that are trending at Zara right now. There are plenty of cool colours—I chose a failsafe crisp white one and my mom went for a poplin shirt in a pretty pink hue.
This colour suits everyone.
The matching bandeau is a plus.
Obsessed with this colour.
Stripes are a must.
Another pretty hue.
I don’t tend to wear a ton of patterns but I’m a big fan of the hippy, trippy psychedelic prints that are trending hard right now (that have a vintage Pucci vibe). I beelined for this super fun mini and my mum went for the same print in silk blouse form. Here’s to a mummy and me moment!
Purple + Green = total win.
Wear together or mix and match.
This set is everything.
For spring nights out.
Pack this for an upcoming holiday.
My mum and I have always been drawn to silky satin fabrics and luckily Zara is really going hard at the trend this season. And why not? The glossy fabric makes every outfit look more expensive. I’m loving this pretty green hue and mom is a fan of this vibrant pink.
Super luxe.
How good is this colour.
And it’s a skort.
Talk about expensive-looking.
The ultimate dress for day to night.
In keeping with the tailored looks we’re both loving this season, trending vests are one of our favourite polished pieces. I’m a fan of some of the cute cropped versions Zara has that I can wear over a tank or by itself. My mum likes the longline vests that are flattering and unquestionably elegant.
I’m going back for the matching shorts.
A minimalist dream.
The fit is everything.
Chanel vibes.
Just add high-waisted jeans.
