Over 1 in 10 Americans have been diagnosed with diabetes, according to a 2019 report from the CDC — which includes Type 1, caused by your own body attacking itself; Type 2, which can be prevented or delayed with lifestyle changes; and gestational diabetes, which develops in pregnant women and usually goes away after the baby is born. To put it another way: A lot of people have diabetes, but they aren’t represented in the media.
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) today announced that they had launched an Animal Crossing: New Horizons island to raise awareness of the condition and promote diabetes representation in general, in partnership with insulin pump company Omnipod, and three other diabetes advocacy groups.
