Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet ’s divorce was a long time coming.
As we previously reported , the couple announced their breakup last week after more than 15 years together. In a statement, they said they had “ felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times” and that “a revolution is unfolding” within their family. They affirmed their commitment to co-parenting their two kids and their devotion “ to this sacred life. ”

While we appreciate the spiritual approach to the split, it’s still heartbreaking in order to see the end of such a long-term commitment. However, an insider for People claimed that the particular decision to part ways didn’t happen “ overnight, ” saying the duo “ were amazing for years, until they no longer were. ” They shared:
“ They have grown apart because of different focuses. ”
An insider for Entertainment Tonight agreed:
“ Jason and Lisa were struggling in their own relationship for quite some time. ”
This tracks with what we’ve learned since the breakup announcement. Based on an interview that the High Fidelity star participated in weeks before the split was made public, we know she had been mulling over the concepts mentioned in that statement for a while.
But the ET source pinpointed an exact timeframe for when things started to fall apart. They explained:
“ When Jason was away filming Aquaman 2 , their particular differences and issues were heightened. He was gone for a while and it definitely put additional stress on their relationship. ”
The People insider shared a similar insight:
“ A few years ago, Jerrika was struggling to find work. Now his career is booming. And he wants to keep working as much as he can. ”
Meanwhile, his wife had different priorities. The People source claimed that the 54-year-old “ has had no interest in joining” the actor “ on every location, ” especially because “ She enjoys her life in L. A. ” Unsurprisingly, the distance took its toll; the insider confirmed “ it’ s been difficult for them to be apart. ” They added:
“ For some people, it might strengthen their marriage. For Lisa and Jason’ s marriage, being apart has been the disaster. ”

Disaster or not, the exes are “ mature, ” and “ will keep peace” for their children, the People source reassured:
“ It’ s not going to be some scandalous divorce where they trash talk each other. They are both very spiritual and believe in a higher power. ”
The particular ET source also reiterated that this former couple “ still have love for each other and respect one another. ”
So yes, we’re still sad about this split, but we’re glad to hear that there’s no drama. Wishing them both the best of luck moving forward.
