Yet another anti-vaxxer has died of COVID-19.
According to reports, Czech folk singer Hana Horka passed away after purposely catching the coronavirus in an attempt to get a health pass that would give her access to the sauna and theater.
Her son, Jan Rek, confirmed the news in an interview with public radio iRozhlas.cz, explaining that his mother, the vocalist for the band Asonance, died on Sunday after contracting the Delta variant at the age of 57.

Rek said his mom voluntarily exposed herself to the virus when he and his father, who were both vaccinated, caught it before Christmas. He explained that instead of keeping away, his mother deliberately stayed in close contact with them, sharing:
“She decided to continue to live normally with us and preferred to catch the disease than to get vaccinated.”
In the Czech Republic, proof of vaccination or a recent infection is required to be able to travel, and to get into pretty much any public facility, including bars and restaurants.
Unsurprisingly, Horka was excited to use her “Get Out of Quarantine” card. Two days before her death, she wrote on social media:
“I survived… It was intense. So now there will be the theater, sauna, a concert… and an urgent trip to the sea.”
Unfortunately, the songbird didn’t get to do any of those things. She went out for a walk outside, but after she returned, she started to complain about back pain. Shortly after that, she died choking in her bed, according to her son.
Rek believes his mother’s death was preventable, and blamed her demise on a local anti-vax movement. Claiming that anti-vax leaders like actor Jaroslav Dušek and the biologist Soňa Peková, whose claims his mother frequently shared on her social pages, had brainwashed his mother against vaccination and had “blood on their hands,” he said:
“I know exactly who influenced her… It makes me sad that she believed strangers more than her proper family. It wasn’t just total disinformation but also views on natural immunity and antibodies acquired through infection.”
So unbelievably frustrating!
Rek said he hopes that sharing this experience with the world could convince at least some skeptics who don’t trust science or expert opinions about the importance of getting vaccinated against the virus to think otherwise.
Per recent data, 63 percent of people in the Czech Republic are fully vaccinated against the coronavirus — which is below the EU average. 31 percent have received a booster jab. The country of 10.7 million people announced more than 20,000 new Covid infections on Tuesday.
