Being an international supermodel at 20 has a lot of perks, one being that luxury design houses create handbags especially for you. Kaia Gerber is often seen with a Celine handbag, and so in 2020 the creative director Hedi Slimane designed a shoulder bag especially for her.
Kaia always stays loyal to her minimal aesthetic, wearing straight-leg jeans and leather coats you would expect the cast of Friends to have worn or her mother, Cindy Crawford, back in the ‘90s. The handbag, Ava, unsurprisingly looks like it’s straight from this decade, thanks to its crescent-shaped silhouette that tucks neatly under the shoulder. The bag was initially made just for Kaia, but then was a year later included in the Sprig Summer 2021 collection and now remains a core design for the house.
Given this is a bag designed specifically to Kaia’s taste, it’s no surprise that she wears it almost every day and with almost everything in her wardrobe—whether that’s with leggings, socks and sandals en route to the gym or pretty sun dresses. It’s a classic shape and simple design, but how close it sits to the body and nostalgic touches, such as the chain detailing on the strap, give it a cool-girl edge.
