There’s no set way to do New Year’s, and over time, everyone develops their own traditions. Whether it’s watching fireworks along the Thames, sipping cocktails with old friends or cosying up with a cup of tea, it’s the perfect excuse to let your hair down and celebrate with your favourite people.
This year, team Who What Wear all have very different plans when it comes to the countdown, but it’s safe to say that each and every one of us has been planning our outfits for weeks. We can’t help being fashion nerds, okay? The plus side to our overzealous planning is that we now have a wide range of looks to inspire your New Year’s style. You’re welcome.
So if you’re currently running around like a headless chicken (we’ve all been there), let us give you a little helping hand. There’s something for everyone, from Maxine’s comfy dinner-party slip skirt and Remi’s chic pub attire to Emily’s restaurant-ready velvet suit and Joy’s house party–perfect Rixo dress. Scroll down to see (and shop) what the Who What Wear team are wearing this New Year’s Eve.
Style Notes: The moment I tried on this gorgeous Rixo dress, I knew it would be a keeper. It’s an update on one of the brand’s original designs, and I love the velvet fabric and wrap fit, which, incidentally, would also look fab over black trousers if it’s particularly chilly. I’ll be heading to a friend’s house party for NYE, and this dress provides the perfect amount of dressy without being OTT.
Style Notes: “Usually found in dresses, this year, I’m switching up my NYE style to showcase my favourite separates. I’ve had this velvet blazer in my wardrobe for years, and having usually worn it with jeans or black tailored trousers, I’ve recently realised just how good it looks with my collection of satin slip skirts, too. Throw in my favourite bow-adorned heels and some sparkly earrings for good fanciful measure, and I’m ready to sing ‘Auld Lang Syne’ at the top of my lungs with a glass of fizz in hand.”
Style Notes: “I’ll be heading off to a fancy restaurant with close friends for my last dinner of the year. I think velvet in the right colour screams luxury. I always love whipping out this shirt for evenings out. Perfect paired with flared trousers or even a satin skirt and heels.”
Style Notes: “I’m not one for leaving the house on NYE but I still love to dress up for it. This year we’re hosting friends at ours and I’ll be wearing this blue velvet suit— it feels fancy paired with a silky cami and heeled boots but never too try-hard. It’s soo comfy I might as well be in my pyjamas, which makes it a lot easier to stay awake until the clock strikes 12.”
Style Notes: “My NYE won’t be wild, and knowing me, I’ll probably fall asleep before midnight, but that doesn’t mean I’ll be sitting at home in sweats! I still like to make an effort across the festive period even if I am just with close family and having a low-key time. Smart knitted co-ords and some big earrings are a go-to combination in these moments, and the heels will be present to begin with but kicked off quite quickly, I’m sure.”
Style Notes: “This sequin co-ord feels as party-ready as it gets, but the blazer and loafers make it feel more casual and ‘London.'”
