I don’t want to sound too reductive about my job, but a reasonable chunk of it could be summarised as “professional window shopper.” And I’m totally okay with it. Every day I have my beady eye on the new-in sections of various online fashion platforms, sifting out the golden nuggets that deserve a moment in the Who What Wear spotlight. Perhaps unsurprisingly, NET-A-PORTER is the website that I most enjoy browsing because of its encyclopedic offering of luxury labels, both established and up-and-coming. I am very much the proverbial kid in a candy store.
At any given time, I probably have a running list of about 20 or so items that I can’t stop thinking about (regardless of whether or not they’re in my budget). My NET-A-PORTER wish list essentially acts as a digitised fantasy wardrobe filled with all my dream purchases—it really is shopping escapism at its best. So what is currently residing on said wish list? Mostly elevated basics or, in other words, easy-to-wear separates that feature an interesting print or dramatic colourway. For example, Loewe’s trench coat is instantly transformed into a showpiece with some simple gathering, while the colourful buttons on Chloé’s silk blouse make it stand out from other more traditional iterations. All of the items on my wish list can also be dressed up or dressed down. Case in point: Gucci’s geometric-print midi skirt will look just as good with platform heels and a silken cami as it would with chunky boots and a cable-knit jumper. So if you want some insight into the pieces on my NET-A-PORTER wish list, just keep on scrolling.
