Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige On If ‘Fantastic Four’ & ‘X-Men’ Acquisitions Sped Up MCU Plans

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed if the acquisitions of the Fantastic Four and X-Men characters impacted the MCU’s concrete plans.

Industry heads rolled when Disney announced that it would be purchasing 21st Century Fox for a whopping $71 billion. This acquisition also allowed Marvel Studios to get its hands on the rights to characters like The Fantastic Four and X-Men. These new characters could considerably expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as open up thousands of possibilities for the multiverse, which is currently in its infancy.

In a recent chat with Collider, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige discussed how having access to new characters was a great way to explore new stories. However, they didn’t necessarily impact the plans the MCU had in place.

“I think the Ancient One mentions it in Doctor Strange 1, when she’s taking Stephen Strange through that mind-warping journey. And it was always one of the most powerful storytelling tools in the comics – one you have to wield carefully because it can get overwhelming, but one that now with the 80-year history of the comics, now we have a 20 plus history of the movies, and there are enough characters that we can start playing with it that way. We mention it, obviously, as part of Mysterio’s ruse in Far From Home. I think the toys that were added to that toybox increased with that Fox acquisition, but it didn’t change the timetable on when we were introducing the idea of the multiverse.”

Details are slim on how the Fantastic Four and X-Men will be introduced into the MCU, though Kevin Feige has previously mentioned that these projects are moving ahead. With the multiverse set to fully explode in Spider-Man: No Way Home, it remains to be seen just how long we have to wait to see these Fox characters.

Here is the synopsis for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home:
