The first poster for the Sonic: The Hedgehog sequel is just as chaotic as you’d expect.
Sonic: The Hedgehog was maligned by fans when the first trailer dropped thanks to questionable design choices for the titular character. After a considerable amount of backlash, Paramount and the creative team took it to heart and retooled the visuals for the lead character, making it more game accurate. The extra hard paid off, as the film went on to become a critical and commercial success, and still receives praise for its intense action sequences and comedic moments.
Naturally, a sequel was quickly commissioned, and it’s further along than you might think. The first poster for the Sonic: The Hedgehog sequel has finally dropped and it doubles down on the chaos from the first film. Sonic kneels on top of a plane as Tails, who was introduced in the last film’s post-credits sequence, flies it. Behind the duo are Jim Carrey’s Mr. Robotonik and his various drones in hot pursuit.
The trailer for the Sonic sequel will also debut tomorrow evening at The Game Awards, which begin streaming at 8 P.M ET. Details on the sequel are slim, though we do know that Knuckles will be voiced by none other than Idris Elba. Hopefully, the trailer gives us further insight into Dr. Robotnik’s sophomore plans and how Sonic is coping with Earth’s luxuries.
Here’s the synopsis for Sonic The Hedgehog:
SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centers on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.
Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, the film features the voice talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Neal McDonough as US Army Major Bennington, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, and Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star.
