Iconic Marvel and DC Comics artist George Perez announced that he has stage three pancreatic cancer.
Comic book legend George Perez shared the news on his Facebook page, where he revealed that his diagnosis sees him living for only 6 to 12 months. Perez has opted to “let nature take its course” and will not be pursuing chemotherapy treatment. The artist noted that he intends on spending his final days with his wife of forty years, friends, family, and the fans he has cultivated in his legendary career.

George Perez mentions in his statement that he will be issuing refunds for sketches that he will no longer be able to finish. The Marvel legend also mentioned that he intends to set up one final book signing, as well as a public appearance for fans. To make communication between himself and his fans easier during the next few months, George Perez has set up a separate Facebook page: @TheGeorgePerez, where either he or a rep will respond with further information.
George Perez is best known for his work as an artist for both Marvel and DC Comics. His work with DC has seen him create art for a variety of comics including Teen Titans, Crisis On Infinite Earths, Wonder Woman, and Superman. His legacy as an artist continued over at Marvel, where he created the artwork for the now legendary Infinity Gauntlet, and The Avengers, among others. Perez’s visual language and its influence have extended beyond comics and have leaped onto big-screen projects produced by Marvel Studios and DC’s Extended Universe, respectively.
The artist officially retired from working on comics in 2019, stepping down due to his failing vision and other health issues. George Perez is currently 67 years old.
