Sony Pictures Animation has revealed the first official look at the sequel to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Nearly four years after the original film hit theaters, the sequel to the Academy Award-winning animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is finally set to hit theaters on October 7, 2022. The sequel, which will feature the return of Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) and Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) as well as newcomer Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman (Issa Rae) looks to expand upon the imaginative animated universe established from Phil Lord and Christopher Miller’s acclaimed film.
For all the discussions surrounding the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, particularly in regards to the addition of previous villains from the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield incarnations of the webhead such as Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), Doctor Octopus (Alfred Molina) and Electro (Jamie Foxx) among others, it wouldn’t be a stretch to say that the critical and commercial success of Into the Spider-Verse helped pave the way for the Multiverse to be explored in live-action. For one, the fact that the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel as well as Benedict Cumberbatch’s appearance in No Way Home are any indication with Marvel Studios’ plans, the impact of Sony’s animated film only catapulted the idea into execution.
Whether you’re excited or not, it’s safe to say that Spider-Man is in a golden age when it comes to his portrayals in different mediums.
Here is the synopsis for Sony’s original animated film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse:
