Jared Leto teased a connection between Morbius and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
During Brazil CCXP 2021, Sony Pictures put on an exciting presentation for its upcoming releases. We got our first official look at Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (Part One) and a panel featuring three of the primary antagonists of Spider-Man: No Way Home. We also got an exciting new look at Jared Leto’s Morbius.
In discussing his upcoming film at CCXP 2021, Jared Leto discussed the implications that the Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer brought to the table, and how it factors into the story we will see on display with Morbius. You can read his statement down below:
“In the film version of Morbius that we’re bringing to you now, he’s also a part of a much larger universe. If you’ve seen the last Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, you know the Multiverse has officially opened, and there’s all kinds of opportunities for villains to meet up, thrive, and maybe even nurture their more sinister intents. That’s all I’m gonna say for right now.”
It will be interesting to see if Jared Leto’s Morbius ends up facing off against Spider-Man in the future. In particular, the post-credits scene for Venom: Let There Be Carnage already teased a potential crossover between Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Either way, the next few months for Spider-Man fans are going to be pretty exciting.
Here is the synopsis for Jared Leto’s Morbius:
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.
Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
Morbius is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on January 28th, 2022. Meanwhile, Spider-Man: No Way Home is set to hit theaters on December 17, 2022.
