Jamie Foxx shared his response to the new Electro design for Spider-Man: No Way Home.
One of the many exciting aspects of Spider-Man: No Way Home is the return of numerous villains from different universes. The first villain that was officially announced as part of the lineup when the film was in production was Jamie Foxx as Max Dillon AKA Electro. The character first appeared in Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in 2014.
Jamie Foxx’s portrayal as Electro received mixed responses from critics and fans alike, with many comparing his performance to that of Jim Carrey’s Riddler in Batman Forever. Many fans were also not fond of his character design, which deviated away from the traditional green and yellow design for a blue from head-to-toe look. Thankfully, Jamie Foxx’s Electro is redesigned in Spider-Man: No Way Home with a design that pays tribute to the comic book incarnation.
During a panel appearance at Brazil CCXP 2021, Jamie Foxx shared his reaction to the new design for Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home, especially in comparison to his original blue look in The Amazing Spider-Man 2:
“I’m happy we got a brand new start, a brand new look. The blue, when we did it the first time, I didn’t care, I was just happy to be in this wonderful course, and it was, like you said, it was sort of like two or three hours or whatever. But with this new, this new new, it’s fly. The homies are like ‘Ok, we get you now.’ I was blue, they still roll with me, ‘Ok, you blue.’ But this one, it just feels more comfortable, and I think it feels more today, modern, not trying so hard. I sort of relate it to R&B. Back in the day, R&B, you used to have fringes on your outfit and shoulder pads and things. Now, you can just sing, so it’s like, now we’re just singing.”
These comments from Jamie Foxx are pretty interesting. For one, the original Electro design was a point of contention for fans, and seeing him acknowledge their complaints is refreshing to hear. Also, to see him return seven years after his last appearance is pretty exciting, especially if it means we could potentially see him not only face off against Tom Holland, but of course, a potential rematch with Andrew Garfield if he were to appear.
Jamie Foxx returns as Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Here is the synopsis:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero’s identity is revealed, bringing his Super Hero responsibilities into conflict with his normal life and putting those he cares about most at risk. When he enlists Doctor Strange’s help to restore his secret, the spell tears a hole in their world, releasing the most powerful villains who’ve ever fought a Spider-Man in any universe. Now, Peter will have to overcome his greatest challenge yet, which will not only forever alter his own future but the future of the Multiverse.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield heavily rumored to appear.
