The Book of Boba Fett star Ming-Na Wen explained the partnership between Boba and Fennec Shand in the upcoming Star Wars series.
Boba Fett has always been categorized as a bad guy in the Star Wars universe, but The Mandalorian added another layer to the character by having him assist Din Djarin in season two. The Book of Boba Fett will see the bounty hunter attempt to rule Tattooine with Fennec Shand by his side. In the winter 2021 issue of Disney Twenty-Three publication, Ming-Na Wen explained their relationship:
“Well, there’s a partnership between the two of them [Fennec and Boba Fett], for sure. They’re bonded by the fact that they both lived through a near-death experience. And there is a sense of code that they both abide by.”
Some Star Wars fans were concerned that Boba Fett was turned into a good guy. No Star Wars show or movie has followed the bad guy, but it sounds like The Book of Boba Fett will be the closest we get based on what Ming-Na Wen said next:
“So it’s going to be really interesting to see how their dynamics grow in The Book of Boba Fett. I think that’s all I can say. The rest is, you have to watch. Not that they’re the bad guys. They’re not that good either. We are the anti-hero. I like playing an anti-hero. You get away with more, I think.”
Here is the synopsis for the upcoming Star Wars series:
The Book of Boba Fett, a thrilling Star Wars adventure, finds legendary bounty hunter Boba Fett and mercenary Fennec Shand navigating the Galaxy’s underworld when they return to the sands of Tatooine to stake their claim on the territory once ruled by Jabba the Hutt and his crime syndicate.
Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Robert Rodriguez, and Kathleen Kennedy are all executive producers on The Mandalorian spinoff with episodes directed by Rodriguez, Favreau, Filoni, Bryce Dallas Howard, Steph Green, and Kevin Tancharoen. The series stars Temuera Morrison, Ming-Na Wen, and Jennifer Beals.
