The latest episode of Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye teased Maya Lopez’s evil uncle.
Spoilers ahead for Hawkeye‘s third episode.
The latest episode of Hawkeye continued Kate Bishop and Clint Barton’s journey through the lit-up streets of New York but not before teasing a major Marvel villain. Quick recap: episode two ended with Bishop and Barton getting “caught” by the Tracksuit Mafia, who has beef with Ronin, Hawkeye’s vigilante between the years of Infinity War and Endgame. As the episode came to a close, the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia was revealed to be Maya Lopez, or Echo, who is set to get her own Disney Plus series.
We learn that Maya Lopez’s father was killed by Ronin at a Fat Man Auto Repair. Echo is on a search for answers, which is when we jump to a flashback. In 2007, we see a young Maya with her father, William, at a martial arts dojo. There, an unseen man chuckles and brushed his hand against Maya’s face. This man, who has been teased as being of considerable size, is none other than “Uncle”.
Back to the present, we see Kate Bishop and Jeremy Renner back onto the streets of New York, ready to figure out their next plan. Kazi, Maya Lopez’s right-hand man, warns Echo that it isn’t smart to conduct a relentless search for Ronin. Kazi signs to Maya that “I just hope Uncle won’t find out. He wouldn’t be happy.”
Another hint at Maya’s uncle is given when Clint Barton tells Kate Bishop how there is someone above Maya who is relentless and will do anything to grow the operation.
All the hints and teases point to Maya’s uncle being none other than Marvel villain royalty Kingpin. Rumors have persisted for quite some time that Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin from Daredevil would return for Marvel Studios’ Hawkeye. All the information we’ve heard regarding Echo’s Uncle seems to line up with Kingpin’s backstory, which is connected to Maya Lopez’s origins in the comics. It wouldn’t be surprising if D’Onofrio popped up in a future episode considering Maya’s uncle is not only someone who is power-obsessed but also towers over everyone.
Here is the synopsis for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye:
Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.
Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Tony Dalton, Fra Free, Brian d’Arcy James, Aleks Paunovic, Piotr Adamczyk, Linda Cardellini, Simon Callow, Vera Farmiga and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh is expected to return in her Black Widow role.
The first two episodes of Hawkeye are now available to stream on Disney Plus, with new episodes dropping on Wednesdays. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the Jeremy Renner series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
