Hawkeye head writer Jonathan Igla has revealed that Hallmark Channel Christmas films were a big inspiration for the series.
Jeremey Renner’s Hawkeye series will soon be upon us and critics already seem to enjoy it. Heroic Hollywood’s own Nathaniel Brail gave the series an 8.5/10 and the show currently has an 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. How well it will click with audiences, however, remains to be seen.
At the head of the writing table for Hawkeye is Jonathan Igla who broke into the industry as a writer on the AMC drama series, Mad Men. Since then, Igla has worked as a writer and/or producer and several television shows before landing the job to lead the Hawkeye series. Oddly enough, however, one of the biggest inspirations for the series came from one of the unlikeliest of places: Hallmark Channel Chrisman films.
In a recent interview, Jonathan Igla revealed that Hallmark Channel movies found their way into the Hawkeye series. Igla stated that after going reading so many comics the channel’s Christmas films were a good way to relax and disconnect from his work:
“I couldn’t say they did not inform the Christmas of the show, a little bit. In the same way that those movies are comforting, I was reading those comics so many times. There was something that was comforting and relaxing about it. To turn off the stress of the day and try to disconnect from work.”
Here is the synopsis for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye:
Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.
Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh is expected to return in her Black Widow role.
Hawkeye is set to premiere with two episodes on November 24, exclusively on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the upcoming series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
