A new concept design imagines what Venom star Tom Hardy would look like as Hugh Jackman’s replacement as Wolverine for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With Disney and Marvel Studios now owning the rights to the X-Men, we can finally see Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Unfortunately, Hugh Jackman officially retired from the role all the way back in 2017 with Logan, which some have dubbed the character’s swan song. The show must go on, which means the MCU has to now find another star to play Wolverine. A number of names have been thrown around over the last few years, but the most surprising of all is Venom star Tom Hardy.
Tom Hardy made his comic book film debut in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises as Bane before he became Venom in 2018. It turns out that Hardy was originally considered for the role of Wolverine in 2011 for Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. Upon hearing this news, artist Mizuri drew up a concept design that imagines the Venom star as the MCU’s Wolverine.
While it’s highly unlikely that Tom Hardy would star as Wolverine considering Venom has been folded into the MCU, it’s still a fantastic hypothetical design. Besides, Hardy would have made a gret Wolverine if things had worked out differently. The British star would have certainly honored Hugh Jackman’s legacy as the character whilst also putting his own spin on the X-Men.
Here is the synopsis for Tom Hardy’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage:
“After finding a host body in investigative reporter Eddie Brock, the alien symbiote must face a new enemy, Carnage, the alter ego of serial killer Cletus Kasady.”
Directed by Andy Serkis from a script written by Kelly Marcel, the film stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham, and Woody Harrelson.
