Ahsoka scribe Dave Filoni has described the writing process for the upcoming Disney Plus Star Wars series as “thrilling”.
Ahsoka Tano first made her debut in the animated series The Clone Wars as Anakin Skywalker’s apprentice. Tano later appeared in Star Wars Rebels, a series that expanded her character and added tragedy and nuance to her story. And finally, the fan-favorite Star Wars character made the jump to live-action in the second season of The Mandalorian. Played by Rosario Dawson, Tano’s live-action portrayal was universally acclaimed so much so that she’s set to get her own live-action series on Disney Plus simply dubbed: Ahsoka.
Dave Filoni, one of the writers who helped shape Ahsoka’s story throughout the years is set to return to the character for the live-action series, which will hopefully focus on the Jedi trying to thwart Admiral Thrawn. In a recent interview with Empire, Filoni opened up about the series and described what the writing process was like.
“It’s thrilling, I gotta tell you. It’s something you imagine doing for a long time. And then it’s kind of startling when you’re sitting there, and now you have to do it.”
“I thought of this adventure for Ahsoka for a long time, and it’s interesting to see how it’s evolved. Years ago, I never would have imagined that it was sprung from a branch of a tree that had anything to do with a guy [like] Din Djarin, or a child that looks like Yoda. It’s a great lesson for me on how, when you have other creatives like Jon Favreau, they can help lend such dimension and depth to what you’re doing.”
Details are slim on the live-action series but it’s exciting to hear that Dave Filoni is getting the opportunity to craft a story that he’s been wanting to tell for quite some time. Filoni has been working with Lucasfilm for over a decade and has quickly become one of Star Wars‘ leading creatives.
Rosario Dawson made her debut as Ahsoka Tano in The Mandalorian, here is the show’s premise:
“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travels of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic….”
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Temuera Morrison, Katee Sackhoff, Ming-Na Wen, Bill Burr, Timothy Olyphant, and Carl Weathers, with Rosario Dawson joining the series as Ahsoka Tano ahead of her spin-off series. The series was created by Jon Favreau and executive produced by Dave Filoni, with season two episodes also directed by Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Peyton Reed, Carl Weathers, and Robert Rodriguez.
The first two seasons of The Mandalorian are available on Disney Plus.
