Avengers star Jeremy Renner once dared Marvel Studios to recast Hawkeye.
As one of the founding members of the Avengers, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye grew to become one of the most integral characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to his grounded nature and personal family life. Fittingly enough, the Academy Award-nominee was at one point willing to part ways with Marvel Studios for family reasons.
In an interview with Men’s Health, Jeremy Renner revealed that he stood firm on prioritizing time with his daughter, who was born in 2013. Following the release of the first Avengers film, Marvel Studios’ trajectory in the industry was only skyrocketing, and some people warned the Hawkeye actor that he could be let go from the franchise over his firm stance on his personal life. He explained his experience:
“It taught me how to have the nuts to say, ‘Everyone, fuck off. It’s my time with my daughter.’ I said, ‘Fine, recast me. I’m going to be here with my daughter.’ It was pretty gnarly… Acting and everything else goes out the window, until my daughter says, ‘I want to hang out with my friends, and I don’t want to be around you so much, Daddy.’ I never knew that resting face I have could be beautiful. It’s not on me. It is on her, on Ava.”
Through negotiations, Jeremy Renner insists that he has the opportunity to visit his daughter or have her visit him on projects during the weekends. The actor has expressed interest in having his character potentially leading in a Captain America-like role, so perhaps his future with the MCU will be extended. Following his last appearance in Avengers: Endgame, he is set to return as Hawkeye in his own standalone event series.
Here is the synopsis for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye:
Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.
Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh is expected to return in her Black Widow role.
Hawkeye is set to premiere with two episodes on November 24, exclusively on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the future of the Avengers and Jeremy Renner with Marvel Studios, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
