Jeremy Renner discussed his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after his Disney Plus series Hawkeye.
Since his cameo appearance in 2011’s Thor, Jeremy Renner has played Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye onscreen in five different films. As one of the founding Avengers of the entire MCU, his character has served an integral role to the team, grounding the fantastical elements of a universe filled with superheroes, magic, and science fiction with his portrayal as a devoted family man.
With the upcoming release of his own Disney Plus series Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner will finally get his first standalone project in the MCU. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, we will see what the beloved character is up to during the holiday season, now that he is mentoring Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) and confronting his past as Ronin. Obviously, there are more stories coming out following this series, but some are wondering where Clint Barton’s future in the franchise is headed, especially since he’s officially retired from the Avengers.
In a discussion with GamesRadar+, Jeremy Renner discussed his future in the MCU following his Hawkeye event series on Disney Plus:
“I don’t have a crystal ball, or I’m not a soothsayer. But having Hailee come in, and these characters, I think it opens it up for six great episodes for this event type of television. After that, I have no idea. But these six episodes are pretty exciting.”
This six-episode Hawkeye series is likely setting things up for Kate Bishop to take the reins as a prominent figure in the MCU. We don’t know where Clint Barton will end up (hopefully alive, at the very least), but in the meantime, Jeremy Renner could also be preserving secrets regarding his character’s fate, especially if the post-credits scene in Black Widow was any indication.
Here is the synopsis for Hawkeye:
“Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.”
Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh is expected to return in her Black Widow role.
Hawkeye is set to premiere with two episodes on November 24, exclusively on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding Jeremy Renner and his future in the MCU, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
