‘Dune’ Director Denis Villeneuve Confirms Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen For Part Two

Dune director Denis Villeneuve has confirmed that one of the book’s antagonists, Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen will appear in Part Two.

Last month Denis Villeneuve’s Dune was released to theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously. The film quickly became a hit by pandemic standards, earning well over $353M worldwide on a $165M budget and is doing very well on HBO Max. Part Two was quickly put into development and is currently set to be released in October of 2023.

Denis Villeneuve’s Dune was a film that had no shortage of antagonists. From Stellan Skarsgård’s Vladimir Harkonnen to Dave Bautista’s Glossu Rabban to the desert of Arrakis itself, the House of Atreides had no shortage of enemies. Yet there was one who was notably missing.

One of the big antagonists of the novel is Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen. The nephew of Vladimir Harkonnen and younger brother of Glossu Rabban, the character acted as something of a dark parallel to Paul and, like the Atreides heir, was a key figure in Bene Gesserit’s plans. The character is probably better remembered by actor/musician Sting’s portrayal in the 1984 film directed by David Lynch.

In a recent interview with Empire Magazine, Denis Villeneuve confirmed that the character was going to appear in Dune: Part Two but didn’t go into how big of a role he would have in the film nor who would play him:

“Definitely. That’s a choice that I personally brought on. There was enough characters that were introduced in this first part, and it will be more elegant to keep Feyd for Part Two. It will be definitely a very, very important character in the second part.”

Here is the synopsis for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune:

Set in the distant future, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides whose family accepts control of the desert planet Arrakis. As the only producer of a highly valuable resource, control of Arrakis is highly contested among the noble families. After Paul and his family are betrayed, the story explores themes of politics, religion, and man’s relationship to nature as Paul leads a rebellion to restore his family’s control of Arrakis.

Denis Villeneuve directed Dune from a script he co-wrote with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. The film stars Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Charlotte Rampling, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Javier Bardem and David Dastmalchian.

Dune is now playing in theaters and on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the franchise and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
