Hawkeye director Rhys Thomas commented on Florence Pugh returning as Yelena Belova in the upcoming series.
While Black Widow was a prequel film, the end-credits scene still teased a Phase Four project happening after the events of Avengers: Endgame. The scene alluded to Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova going after Hawkeye following Black Widow’s death. Chances are we will see this play out in the upcoming Hawkeye series since Pugh will appear and director Rhys Thomas shared what he could with GameRadar+:
“I can’t speak to that. But yes, we know their past, and obviously what happened in Endgame. We know in these first two episodes that Clint’s dealing with the fallout of that. But in terms of how they meet, I can’t – I’ll just pretend I don’t know. Imagine it’s a happy meeting, where they talk over coffee and work things out.”
Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova hasn’t been seen in any of the footage released for Hawkeye so far, and Thomas added that while the series is still very much connected to the MCU, it will stand in its own corner:
“It’s definitely a standalone thing in that we have this Christmas setting, and this very fixed timeframe story. But it being the MCU, of course, it all connects in some way as well. And we’ve got new characters, and this was teed up at the end of Black Widow as well. And so everything is always a nice entry point. But I think for the most part, the story is its own little world.”
Here is the synopsis for Hawkeye:
“Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit.”
Hawkeye stars Jeremy Renner, Hailee Steinfeld, Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, Tony Dalton, Brian d’Arcy James, and Alaqua Cox. Florence Pugh will return in her Black Widow role.
Hawkeye is set to premiere with two episodes on November 24, exclusively on Disney Plus. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news regarding the future of Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova in the MCU, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
