‘Moon Knight’: First Footage Teases Oscar Isaac’s Marvel Studios Series

Oscar Isaac is Marc Spector in a new sizzle reel for the Marvel Studios series Moon Knight.

Marvel Studios has revealed the first footage from Moon Knight, the upcoming Disney Plus series starring Oscar Isaac. The sneak peek, which is currently available on the streaming service, opens with Isaac’s Marc Spector looking paranoid and sweaty in a museum filled with Egyptian artifacts. His reflection stays in mirrors and glass objects throughout the museum. More shots of paranoia and anxiety fill the screen. “I can’t tell the difference between my waking life and dreams,” says Spector, before Ethan Hawke’s mysterious character adds: “the voice…. in your head…. it devours you.” The footage then cuts a creepy glimpse of a destroyed bathroom as Moon Knight beats someone before ending with a stunning sequence of the character jumping from a rooftop.

Directed by Mohamed Diab, Moon Knight is described as “a new globetrotting action-adventure series featuring a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. The multiple identities who live inside him find themselves thrust into a deadly war of the gods against the backdrop of modern and ancient Egypt.” The series also stars Ramy actress May Calamawy.

In the comics, Marc Spector, a.k.a. Moon Knight, was a CIA agent-turned-mercenary making millions. During his last mercenary job in Cairo, Spector was left for dead by a former colleague.

Spector dragged himself through the sands of the desert to the tomb of Konshu, the Egyptian moon god. There he was pronounced dead but resurrected at the hands of Konshu. The resurrection took a toll, however, as he developed multiple personality disorder. When he returned to New York, he created two new personalities — Steven Grant and Jake Lockley. Grant was the millionaire womanizer while Lockley was a cab driver.

It was after developing his other personalities when he took on the mantle of Moon Knight. Konshu granted Spector with increased physical capabilities and periodic prophetic visions at night, yet even Spector himself was unsure whether Konshu was yet another personality of his own creation. Even still, Moon Knight operates with an arsenal of technology, vehicles, and costumes to suit his needs.
