A new Marvel Zombies animated series is officially in development for the Disney Plus streaming service.
Earlier this year, an episode based around the Marvel Zombies concept made its debut on the What If…? series. The episode focused on a number of the Marvel Cinematic Universe heroes trying to find a cure for the zombie apocalypse and saw several of the characters die horribly. The episode ended on something of a cliffhanger, leaving it open as to whether or not the heroes ever found a cure.
The Marvel Zombies story was based on a comic of the same name, written by The Walking Dead scribe Robert Kirkman. The series had its origins in the Ultimate Fantastic Four series by Mark Millar where a zombie version of Reed Richards attempted to invade the Ultimate Marvel Universe. The series would go on to have several sequels and spin-offs and, most recently, an animated adaptation in the form of a What If…? episode. Now, Marvel Studios is working on a Zombies series for Disney Plus.
The upcoming Marvel Zombies show is set to focus on a new generation of heroes as they battle the zombie scourge. What If… director Bryan Andrews will be helming the series.
Here is the official synopsis for the What If…? series:
“Exploring pivotal moments from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and turning them on their head, leading the audience into uncharted territory.”
What If…? features the voices of Josh Brolin, Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, Michael B Jordan, Chadwick Boseman, Jeffrey Wright, Hayley Atwell, and other major stars from the MCU.
What If…? is now available to stream on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of Marvel Zombies as we learn it and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
