Tom Holland has confirmed that Jamie Foxx will be reprising his role as Electro in Spider-Man: No Way Home.
It’s been all but expected that Jamie Foxx would be returning as Electro for the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spidey threequel. The star announced before the film began production that he would be returning as the villain, though he quickly backpedaled on his comments. Jamie Foxx’s return was all but confirmed when the first trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home featured yellow-colored lightning hitting the ground. And now, Tom Holland has finally confirmed Foxx’s return. Phew.
In a chat with Total Film Magazine, Tom Holland discussed the various characters reprising their Spider-Man roles for the MCU threequel, and in that conversation, managed to name-drop Jamie Foxs, who debuted as Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.
“Everyone puts their trousers on in the same way in the morning. It was interesting having those guys come in because they have certain ownership over Spider-Man in their own way, and…I’m talking about Alfred and Jamie and those guys.”
Who are “those guys?” It’d be easy to imagine that Tom Holland means Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, who have been rumored to reprise their roles as their respective Spider-Men. Holland could also mean Willem Dafoe, who hasn’t been explicitly confirmed as returning, despite promotional material directly hinting at the Green Goblin.
The Spider-Man: No Way Home star continued by discussing how it was interesting to see Doctor Octopus star Alfred Molina and other actors come in and deliver new spins on their beloved characters.
“To see Alfred come in, and have to adapt and change to the way that the films are made, but also change director, and also [the fact that] I’m now Spider-Man. It was really interesting to see these actors adapt and change what they were doing to fit the modern era.”
It’s pretty much clear that Tom Holland is biting his words and dodging eggshells, so as not to spoil any surprises. Luckily, the wait for the Spidey threequel isn’t too long, which means we should know if the other Spider-Men really are returning sooner rather than later.
Here is the synopsis for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is umasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Alfred Molina.
Spider-Man: No Way Home will hit theaters on December 17, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the film, as well as what’s going on in Marvel Studios’ Multiverse, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
