Marvel Studios’ newest film Eternals received is official CinemaScore audience grade.
Eternals finally hit theaters this weekend, and the reviews for the film are by far the most mixed of any Marvel Studios film in the franchise. As of the publishing of this article, the film currently sits at a Tomatometer rating of 49% from critics but with an 84% from audiences. The film is the first in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to receive a “Rotten” rating, and now, the official CinemaScore audience grade gives us a sense at what the general opening night crowd thought of the film.
On their official Twitter, CinemaScore revealed that Eternals received a B grade from audiences:
This B grade from CinemaScore ranks Eternals at the bottom of Marvel Studios’ films, with the original lowest grade coming from Thor (2011), which received a B+. When compared to Marvel Studios’ films released in 2021 alone, Black Widow earned an A- and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings received an A.
It will be interesting to see how Eternals’ box office performance will turn out, given that the film has received such a mixed reception overall. Regardless of your thoughts on the film, one cannot deny that director Chloe Zhao left a big impression on Marvel Studios, creating one of the most unique films in the franchise’s history.

“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”
Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
