Gael Garcia Bernal is in talks to lead the cast of Marvel’s werewolf-focused Halloween special on Disney Plus.
Earlier this year, it was revealed that Marvel Studios would be producing some kind of Halloween special. Details on the special were vague, but the direction seemed to be pointing to the special being based around the character Werewolf by Night and that the studio was looking for a Latino actor in his late 30s to star in the project. Now, it appears that Marvel has found its leading man.
According to TheWrap, Gael Garcia Bernal is in talks to play the lead character in Marvel’s Halloween special. While relatively unknown in the United States, Gael Garcia Bernal has a resume that stretches back to 1989. He recently starred in the M. Night Shyamalan film Old and provided the voice for Héctor in the 2017 Pixar film Coco. The character has not been confirmed to be Werewolf by Night but individuals with knowledge of the project have suggested the possibility.
There are two versions of Werewolf by Night that exist in the pages of Marvel comics. The first is the Jack Russell version, who first appeared in 1972 in Marvel Spotlight #2. The second version of the character is known as Jake Gomez and was introduced in Werewolf by Night #1 in 2020. The upcoming Halloween Special is said to begin production sometime in the first quarter of 2022.
Marvel Studios’ upcoming slate of films includes The Eternals, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder. In addition to the aforementioned feature films and the Halloween Special, Marvel Studios is developing several shows for Disney Plus, including Hawkeye, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and Moon Knight.
The upcoming Marvel Studios Halloween Special currently does not have a release date. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming Disney Plus project and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
