The latest trailer for Jared Leto’s Morbius is filled to the brim with Venom and Spider-Man references.
One of the most exciting things about Morbius is how it fits into Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. Set in the same universe as Venom, the film also appears to be set in the same universe as Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and even features an appearance from Micheal Keaton’s Adrian Toomes, who was last seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming. That’s a lot to digest but we’re sure the final product will give us all the answers we need, especially after the multiverse-breaking Spider-Man: No Way Home debuts later this year.
With Morbius nearing its January release, Sony Pictures has released a brand new trailer that teases the main character’s plight as he confronts his innate need to feast upon human blood and save humans.
The trailer, which features more footage of Jared Leto as the powerful vampire – including a shot of him flying in front of a subway train – also showcases the film’s place in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. As authorities investigate a crime scene left behind by Morbius, two officers compare this to the events down in San Francisco – a clear nod towards Venom. At the end of the trailer, Morbius jokingly tells someone that he is Venom. The trailer also features another shot of a poster that has Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man on the wall, with the word “murderer” written on it. Michael Keaton’s character also briefly speaks to Morbius.
Here is the official synopsis for Morbius:
One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero, Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed and transforms this healer into a hunter.
Directed Daniel Espinosa from a script written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, the film stars Jared Leto as the lead anti-hero, Adria Arjona, Matt Smith, Jared Harris, and Tyrese Gibson. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the project with Lucas Foster, while Palak Patel will oversee for Sony.
Morbius is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on January 28th, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Morbius and its connection to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content!
