A new AAA Marvel video game is in the works from Skydance New Media and Uncharted creator Amy Hennig.
In recent years, many exciting Marvel video games have hit consoles with more on the way, like Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine. On Friday, it was revealed another AAA “narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure” game is on the horizon.
While we don’t know the specific details about the upcoming game just yet, we know the game will come from Uncharted creator Amy Hennig under Skydance New Media. Hennig, who was also previously on a Star Wars project, had this to say about working with Marvel:
“I can’t imagine a better partner than Marvel for our first game. The Marvel Universe epitomizes all the action, mystery and thrills of the pulp adventure genre that I adore and lends itself perfectly to an interactive experience. It’s an honor to be able to tell an original story with all the humanity, complexity, and humor that makes Marvel characters so enduring and to enable our players to embody these heroes that they love.”
Jay Ong, who is the Executive Vice President & Head of Marvel Games, also shared his excitement about getting to work with the Uncharted creator and her team at Skydance on the new project:
“Amy has been setting the bar for narrative adventure games for decades and we are happy to be collaborating with the talented and experienced New Media team at Skydance. Their ambition and vision for making innovative entertainment using beloved Marvel IP was obvious from our first meeting. We’re excited to share more with Marvel fans when the time is right.”
Skydance New Media Executive Vice President & GM Julian Beak later added that the game will be an original story:
“We are enormously excited to be working inside the Marvel Universe to craft a rich narrative of our own. Jay and his team at Marvel Games are helping us make the best experiences imaginable.”
Here is the official plot synopsis for the latest video game, Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy:
“Fire up Star-Lord’s jet boots for a wild ride across the cosmos in this third-person action-adventure game, a fresh take on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. With the unpredictable Guardians at your side, blast your way from one explosive situation to another, with original and iconic Marvel characters caught in a struggle for the fate of the universe. You got this. Probably.”
