Kevin Feige discussed working on Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness simultaneously.
Marvel Studios has several films and television series on its slate that are all being worked on at roughly the same time, and two of the most-anticipated new entries will hit theaters very soon. In December, we will reunite with Tom Holland as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home and next year, Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Stephen Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. It is safe to say that Kevin Feige is keeping busy.
Both Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will have some connective tissue to each other as well as to the Disney Plus miniseries WandaVision. Given the narrative of these three entries, Kevin Feige had been working on these new standalone sequels at the same time. The Marvel Studios president reflected on working on the films simultaneously to Empire:
“It’s absolutely surreal to be working on a Doctor Strange movie with Sam Raimi in one part of the office, and then working on a Spider-Man movie with Jon Watts and Alfred Molina as Doc Ock in another room. That has been a mind-blowing part of the last 10 years of my life.”
Given that both of these films will explore the Multiverse, Kevin Feige shared why the creative team at Marvel Studios moved on with this exciting approach:
“Everything we do at Marvel is based on a small group of people sitting around a table going, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if…?’ The Multiverse was always a part of that because it’s such a big part of the story in the comics.”
Here is the synopsis for No Way Home:
“For the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, our friendly neighborhood hero is “nmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man.”
Directed by Jon Watts from a script written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, No Way Home stars Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tony Revolori, Martin Starr, J.B. Smoove, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Benedict Wong, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Alfred Molina.
No Way Home is currently set to be released on December 17, 2021. Meanwhile, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to be released on May 6, 2022.
