Compared to the escapism of party pieces, pondering one’s coat-and-jumper pairings for the winter months might not seem like the most glamorous wardrobe endeavour. Yet in our experience, when the mercury drops, we are in need of sartorial pick-me-ups that brighten up even the gloomiest of days. It always helps when fashion designers deliver delicious, endorphin-filled collections that are chock-a-block with saturated colourways and vibrant prints.
You don’t have to scroll far through Net-a-Porter’s winter shop to see a plethora of coats and knitwear that are begging to be coupled-off. As a coat aficionado, I relish the chance to create an interesting ensemble with the simplest of staples, so I took it upon myself to create seven coat-and-jumper pairings from the latest designer drops to inspire your wardrobe this season. So what’s my secret to a successful duo? I personally love a good, bright colour paired with a neutral like beige or cream. See Chloé’s shearling coat thrown over Isabel Marant’s cobalt-blue sweater or Prada’s grey blazer over a teal, feather-trim Lapointe knit. It’s also fun to play with proportions—for example, the stripe on Saint Laurent’s ribbed cardi offers an elegant focus point underneath Toteme’s roomy wool coat. Whatever your chosen cold-weather look, I’ll have a coat-and-jumper pairing for you. Scroll down to see and shop my edit.
