The latest TV spot for Eternals features Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo name-dropping Thor and Spider-Man.
After a series of delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Marvel Studios’ latest sci-fi epic Eternals is set to hit cinemas later next month. Focusing on the titular race of immortal, cosmic beings, the Eternals have been on Earth for over 7,000 years. Through their time on Earth, they have joined and shaped some of our planet’s earliest civilizations. The film is set both in the past and the present, meaning the Eternals are aware of the modern-day Avengers that roaming around the planet.
The latest TV spot for the film shows Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo name-dropping Spider-Man and Thor but mentions how fellow Eternals Thena, played by Angelina Jolie, is just as powerful as them. As Kingo mentions them, footage from their previous appearances takes over the spot.
The TV spot then shows Angelina Jolie’s Thena in action as she battles a deviant. The rest of the spot features footage we’ve seen before, including the conversation between Ikaris and a child who believes he’s Superman. It’s unlikely that Thor or Spider-Man will actually pop up in the film as the Eternals have made it a point to keep their abilities a secret. That being said, it is curious how Kingo is explicitly mentioning Spider-Man and Thor while he reveals his identity and association with Thena. Does he plan on making the identities of the Eternals known?
Here is the synopsis for Chloe Zhao’s Eternals:
“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”
Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
Eternals will hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
