Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani hinted that his character Kingo has a secret history with other Marvel heroes.
Out of all the Eternals, Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo is the only one who has prominently embraced the limelight. Kingo doubles as a Bollywood star, making him a fan to millions of people across the world. Despite the Eternals laying low, Kingo is the only member to have fully embraced the spotlight, which may or may not have put him into contact with other people who share extraordinary abilities. It has been previously hinted that Kingo has run into other Marvel heroes during his tenure as a superstar and it looks like that’s true.
In an interview with ComicBook.com, Kumail Nanjiani discussed how Kingo has definitely met some other Marvel heroes that we’re unaware of.
“Chloe [Zhao] had it all mapped out, and she had a very specific sense of… Because the thing is, Eternals have sort of been in hiding, right? So they haven’t been going around talking to Iron-Man and Captain America and all those people. They’ve been pretending to be normal human beings. But it makes sense that my character would have met another character who’s not from Earth either. I’m trying to be vague. I don’t know what I’m allowed to say or not. So I think that was all part of the stuff, so that even though Eternals really is a standalone movie, you want to feel the presence, and the reality of, the rest of the MCU around it. And Chloe is such a nerd with an encyclopedic knowledge of Marvel and the MCU. So she was really excited about dropping these references in.”
It’s unclear if Eternals will touch upon Kingo meeting other Marvel heroes or if this is just backstory created by Zhao and Nanjiani to service the character. It’s unknown how long Kingo has been a Bollywood star, but it would be interesting to see him interact with other Marvel heroes from that subcontinent, even if he keeps his identity a secret.
Here is the synopsis for Chloe Zhao’s Eternals:
“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”
Chloe Zhao directed Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
Eternals will hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
