A live-action Static Shock film with Michael B Jordan attached to produce is confirmed to be in development.
During DC FanDome 2021, it was revealed that Static Shock was officially getting his first live-action film. Randy McKinnon is set to write the script, and Michael B Jordan is attached to produce the film.
Fans have long-wanted to see Static Shock brought to life in live-action form, and with this newest update on the film, it sure looks like we are getting closer to seeing that come into fruition. Whether or not this film will be a theatrical release or an HBO Max exclusive remains unknown, but it’s encouraging to hear DC FanDome confirm that it is in the works.
Michael B Jordan previously shared his excitement for a Static Shock film, having grown up watching the cartoon. Given his love for comic books as well as his work in previous DC Comics projects lending his voice talents and of course his role as Erik Killmonger in Marvel Studios’ Black Panther, this project holds significance to him on a personal level.
Static Shock’s origins come from the pages of DC’s Milestone Comics and grew in popularity thanks to the animated series of the same name, which aired in the early 2000s. Here is the synopsis for the animated series:
Based on characters from the DC Comics series, superhero Virgil Hawkins and his classmates confront real problems and issues faced by today’s teens: peer pressure, gangs and growing up in an ethnically diverse, urban neighborhood. But helping people and making a positive impact in his community gives a real charge to this newfound superhero in the animated adventures of Static Shock.
The animated Static Shock series featured the voicing talents of Phil LaMarr, Jason Marsden, Kevin Michael Richardson, Michele Morgan, and Crystal Scales.
