The upcoming Batgirl film on HBO Max will feature the “real” Batman – whoever that is.
The DC Extended Universe is set to set its mark on HBO Max with the upcoming Batgirl film that stars Leslie Grace as the titular heroine. Other projects in active development at the streaming service include Jurnee Smollett’s Black Canary film and Matt Reeves’ Gotham City Police Department procedural series. With so many projects in development and Michael Keaton’s Batman set to return in The Flash, it’s hard to keep track of who the “real” Batman is.
For the first time in history, three separate actors – Micheal Keaton, Ben Affleck, and Robert Pattinson – are playing The Caped Crusader on the big screen, which begs the question, who is the “real” Batman?
When asked by VRTNWS which Batman will appear in the upcoming Batgirl film, directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah both laughed and said “the real one.”
We can likely rule Robert Pattinson’s Dark Knight out as he seems to be existing in his own dreary, gothic bubble in The Batman. As for Michael Keaton’s Batman, he is set to appear through the multiverse, making him a “stranger” of sorts to the established DCEU canon. This leaves us with Ben Affleck, who is supposedly set to retire from the role after his stint in The Flash.
Batgirl Leslie Grace is set to be at this weekend’s DC FanDome, so it’s possible that we’ll get an announcement as to who the “real” Batman is.
In addition to Leslie Grace’s solo film, Savannah Welch is currently playing commissioner Barbara Gordon on HBO Max’s Titans season three. Here is the show’s official synopsis:
“Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find where they belong. In season three, circumstances draw our heroes to Gotham City, where they will reunite with old friends and face new threats.”
Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Minka Kelly as Dove, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Joshua Orpin as Superboy, Curran Walters as Red Hood, Vincent Kartheiser as Jonathan Crane, Savannah Welch as Barbara Gordon, Damaris Lewis as Blackfire, and Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne.
