Dolph Lundgren has confirmed in a new photo that he’ll be returning as King Nereus, Mera’s father, in James Wan’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
One of the most popular actors to dominate the 80s and 90s, Dolph Lundgren made his DC Extended Universe debut as the cold-stoned King Nereus in 2018’s Aquaman. Though his role was brief as Mera’s father, Lundgren’s return to the big screen was highly praised by fans and critics. Now, the actor has revealed that he’s set to return for the upcoming sequel just ahead of DC FanDome, a virtual fan event that gives fans a backstage look at what DC has in store in the coming years.
Dolph Lundgren took to Instagram to share a photo of himself lounging in his trailer ahead of shooting his Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom scenes. Though the Swedish actor’s hair is naturally blonde, it has been dyed red once again.
The King Nereus actor praised his fellow castmembers, as well as director James Wan. The Aquaman sequel is currently filming in the United Kingdom and is expected to make a splash at this weekend’s DC FanDome. Though a trailer seems out of the question this early into the production process, fans can expect some behind-the-scenes content that teases the sequel’s action sequences and plot.
Here is the synopsis for the first Aquaman film:
From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime—one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king.
Directed by James Wan, Aquaman stars Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry, Amber Heard as Mera, Willem Dafoe as Vulko, Patrick Wilson as Orm / Ocean Master, Dolph Lundgren as Nereus, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlanna, Ludi Lin as Captain Murk, and Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry.
Aquaman is available on Digital HD, 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray, and DVD. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will hit theaters on December 16, 2022.
