Disney Studios chief creative officer Alan Horn has announced he will retire at the end of this year.
Back in 2012, Former CEO Bob Iger courted Alan Horn to join Disney following his success at Warner Bros. as president and chief creative officer, where he launched franchises such as Harry Potter and The Dark Knight Trilogy. Under Horn, Disney recorded historic numbers as the box office with the explosion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the revival of Star Wars.
On Monday, Alan Horn announced he will be retiring as the chief creative officer at Disney Studios on December 31st. Horn’s CCO role will not be replaced, with Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige and Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy reporting to Disney Studios content chairman Alan Bergman moving forward. The 78-year old said the following in a statement addressing his retirement:
“It has been my great privilege and pleasure to be able to spend these past 50 years helping creative people tell stories that move, entertain, and connect audiences around the world – and a dream come true to have the chance to do it at Disney, no less. I’m deeply thankful to Bob Iger for the opportunity he gave me and to Alan Bergman for being an incredible partner throughout this adventure, as well as to Bob Chapek for his steady leadership during these unprecedented times. I also must recognize the extraordinary leaders of our individual studios as well as our business teams and every single one of our fantastic team members. It’s never easy to say goodbye to a place you love, which is why I’ve done it slowly, but with Alan Bergman leading the way, I’m confident the incredible Studios team will keep putting magic out there for years to come.”
Here is the synopsis for Disney’s next major release, Eternals:
“The story takes place across two time periods. One storyline is set in the past when they operated as a formidable team and a close family unit. The second storyline is in the present, when the group has fractured and split apart, content to live among humans, hiding in plain sight. The prevailing threat of the Deviants, which once again threatens the existence of mankind, means the Eternals need to put their differences aside and regroup.”
Chloe Zhao directs Eternals from a script she co-wrote with Patrick Burleigh, Kaz Firpo, and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak and Angelina Jolie as Thena.
Eternals will hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on Disney’s biggest releases and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
