Anson Mount revealed the Marvel hero he wanted to play more than Black Bolt in Inhumans.
Looking back, it’s easy to forget that Marvel Studios originally had an Inhumans movie as part of their Phase 3 slate. The film was ultimately shelved, but was repurposed into a series by Marvel Television. The series featured Anson Mount as Black Bolt among other characters and premiered in 2017 to negative reviews.
Inhumans only lasted eight episodes and one season, and fans of the characters are going to have to wait for quite sometime until wee see them brought back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In regards to some of the actors involved with the series, Anson Mount revealed to Screen Rant that besides Black Bolt, the Marvel character he most wanted to portray was none other than Gambit:
“If you give me my choice of Marvel characters, I think Black Bolt would have been number two, second only to Gambit. Gambit is just one of the coolest characters in the Marvel universe and obviously I’m partial to him because he’s the Southern superhero. He’s definitely not one of the more powerful characters if you line them all up facing each other [laughs].
But his wit and his ability to overcome such a dark past and then the far future reaches that Marvel has done with him in terms of the scope of his possible futures, it’s just amazing. I think it’s a really rich territory and even if it’s not with me, I hope Marvel does something with Gambit. Now, I’m probably too old so, you know, there’s some people out there that have been calling about Reed Richards, but I don’t know. My dance card’s a little full right now and so is theirs.”
A standalone Gambit movie had been long in-the-works at 20th Century Studios before the Disney acquisition. Channing Tatum was originally set to portray Gambit, but the project was officially cancelled in 2019. The beloved mutant will likely appear in the MCU in the near future, and don’t be surprised if Anson Mount seeks the opportunity to audition for the role.
Here is the official synopsis for Marvel’s Inhumans:
“After the Royal Family of Inhumans is splintered by a military coup, they barely escape to Hawaii where their surprising interactions with the lush world and humanity around them may prove to not only save them, but Earth itself.”
Marvel’s Inhumans stars Anson Mount, Serinda Swan, Iwan Rhoen, Ken Leung, Eme Ikwuakor, Isabelle Cornish, Mike Moh, Sonya Balmores, and Ellen Woglomas.
