The Suicide Squad star Idris Elba pulled himself out of the running to play the next James Bond.
No Time to Die marks the end of Daniel Craig’s time as James Bond with the Broccoli’s not starting their search for his successor until next year. Idris Elba has been fan cast as the character for years and now that Craig’s time is coming to an end, people want to see it finally happen.
Now that Daniel Craig’s James Bond era has come to an end with No Time to Die in theaters, Idris Elba was once again asked by ITV if he will be the next 007:
“No, I’m not going to be James Bond.”
While Idris Elba made it clear he will not be the next James Bond, the 49-year old actor is still excited by the prospect of the next version of the character being played by a person of color:
“How amazing would it be to have a black James Bond? It’s a sign of the times when we can stop talking about black, white, and color.”
Here is the plot synopsis for No Time To Die:
Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.
