Venom: Let There Be Carnage director Andy Serkis has confirmed that the character will crossover with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the future.
Spoilers ahead for Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
The post-credits sequence for Venom: Let There Be Carnage was an absolute game-changer for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the post-credits scene, Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock witnesses J. Jonah Jameson’s newscast from Spider-Man: Far From Home which sees the identity of Peter Parker revealed. It appears that Venom already knows who Spider-Man is as he remarks “that guy” before licking the television screen.
Thanks to ComicBook.com, we know that director Andy Serkis thinks that brief interaction is the start of a “beautiful friendship”. Speaking with the outlet, the director discussed how a crossover between both characters is almost certainly happening – we just don’t know when.
“We wanted to leave the audience knowing that these universes are going to somehow collide and we wanted to do it in such a way that it still leaves so much open and we’re not timing anything. The portal is not being crossed fully. It’s opening up more questions, I suppose, rather than sort of firmly saying [anything]….It is a tease. It’s a tease, in the fullest sense of the word.”
The crossover between Spider-Man and Venom will be the first time Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe will collide, but it remains to be seen just how it happens. It has been theorized that thanks to the multiverse, both characters will be able to co-exist and interact with one another. It’s also uncertain just how long we have to wait until a crossover manifests. With Spider-Man: No Way Home set to hit cinemas this December, it isn’t out of the question to assume a Venom easter egg or reference will be tucked away in the threequel.
Here is the synopsis for Venom: Let There Be Carnage:
“After finding a host body in investigative reporter Eddie Brock, the alien symbiote must face a new enemy, Carnage, the alter ego of serial killer Cletus Kasady.”
Directed by Andy Serkis from a script written by Kelly Marcel, the film stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Stephen Graham and Woody Harrelson.
