Captain Marvel star Lashana Lynch revealed how she found out her character Maria Rambeau died in WandaVision.
Lashana Lynch made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as Maria Rambeau in 2019’s Captain Marvel. Lynch’s Rambeau quickly became a fan favorite among fans, with many hoping to see her return in a future project, such as The Marvels. Seeing as Captain Marvel took place in the mid-90s, and Maria Rambeau isn’t immune to aging and the aversions that come with it, it made sense that character couldn’t show up in future projects. By the time WandaVision was out, it was confirmed that Rambeau had passed from cancer. The series expanded on Rambeau’s life after Captain Marvel, emphasizing her accomplishments in the military field.
In a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Lashana Lynch revealed how she found out that Maria Rambeau died in WandaVision.
“Kevin Feige, who is the nicest guy, personally emailed me way before, I want to say, over a year, year-and-a-half-plus, before WandaVision aired and explained what was happening, how it was going to happen, when it was going to happen. And him specifically saying that he didn’t want me to find out through anyone else. So there was a lot of care around that.”
If we go by Lashana Lynch’s timeline, it turns out that Kevin Feige likely told the star that her character would perish shortly after Avengers: Endgame was released, which came out after Captain Marvel. The star was notably disappointed at the news but expressed excitement that Maria’s legacy continues through Monica Rambeau, who is set to be a major player in the MCU.
“It was sad to read, but also, because I think Maria had such a massive impact on Captain Marvel and everyone loved her and really related to her, I felt good with the work that I did there and felt good that they were able to now continue her legacy in her daughter, which is amazing. And the introduction to her powers in WandaVision is also amazing, so I feel genuinely proud. I’m just happy I knew beforehand and didn’t find out online somewhere.”
Lashana Lynch’s blockbuster days are far from over now that her Captain Marvel character has retired. Lynch currently stars in No Time To Die, the latest installment of the James Bond franchise. Reviews across the pond have praised Lynch’s performance as a stone-cold MI6 agent who takes over Bond’s 00 status.
