James Gunn Reveals Most Difficult Shot In ‘The Suicide Squad’

The Suicide Squad director James Gunn revealed which shot in the DC film was the hardest to pull off.

In The Suicide Squad, there are some dazzling shots from cinematographer Henry Braham. From Harley Quinn’s escape sequence to Peacemaker and Bloodsport taking down the village.

One of the coolest shots in The Suicide Squad that was also in the first trailer features Idris Elba’s Bloodsport walking with the remaining team. The cut goes from one side of Bloodsport’s face to the other with the squad behind him on their way to face Starro. On Twitter, Gunn revealed that the shot was actually the hardest one in the entire film to pull off and explained why:

That shot was the most pain-in-the-ass shot to get in all of #TheSuicideSquad. Pulling back a cart on bumpy terrain with a camera on a slider. We did it like 35 times & I still wasn’t happy with it but we had a huge day of shooting so I just had to give up. #DCFanDome https://t.co/GWJ2BO3QgN

I hate to point it out but it should land and stay more centered on Idris’ face at the end more like the beginning of the shot. But, with real people walking in a real location, it was incredibly difficult to even get this.

Here is the synopsis for The Suicide Squad:

Welcome to hell—a.k.a. Belle Reve, the prison with the highest mortality rate in the US of A. Where the worst Super-Villains are kept and where they will do anything to get out—even join the super-secret, super-shady Task Force X. Today’s do-or-die assignment? Assemble a collection of cons, including Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Captain Boomerang, Ratcatcher 2, Savant, King Shark, Blackguard, Javelin and everyone’s favorite psycho, Harley Quinn. Then arm them heavily and drop them (literally) on the remote, enemy-infused island of Corto Maltese. Trekking through a jungle teeming with militant adversaries and guerrilla forces at every turn, the Squad is on a search-and-destroy mission, with only Colonel Rick Flag on the ground to make them behave…and Amanda Waller’s government techies in their ears, tracking their every movement. And as always, one wrong move and they’re dead (whether at the hands of their opponents, a teammate, or Waller herself). If anyone’s laying down bets, the smart money is against them—all of them.

Written and directed by James Gunn, The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Sylvester Stallone, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Peter Capaldi, David Dastmalchian, Daniela Melchior, Michael Rooker, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Flula Borg, Mayling Ng, Tinashe Kajese, Steve Agee, Jennifer Holland, Alice Braga, Juan Diego Botto, Joaquin Cosio, Storm Reid and Taika Waititi.
