HBO Max has debuted the first trailer for Game of Throne‘s first spin-off series: House of the Dragon.
Ever since Game of Thrones wrapped up in 2019, all eyes turned to HBO’s ever-expanding slate of spin-offs and prequels that took place in the land of Westeros. HBO remained extremely meticulous in its process of choosing spin-offs, even axing a fully-shot pilot that starred Naomi Watts. One of the first few projects to move forward at the network was House of the Dragon, which takes place some 200 years before Daenerys Targaryen began her journey to take back the throne.
Created by George R. R. Martin, the writer behind the Game of Thrones books, and Ryan Condal, the series puts the focus on the Targaryen House’s rule over Westeros and their subsequent downfall. The first trailer for House of the Dragon doesn’t reveal much but gives us a fantastic tease of what to expect from the action-packed series.
The trailer reveals that the series will debut on the streaming service sometime in 2022. Some familiar faces from the trailer include Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith, who stars as Prince Daemon Targaryen, a dragon rider, and Olivia Cooke, who stars as Lady Alicent Hightower, a woman raised in the Red Keep. Cooke is best known for her role in Ready Player One.
Here is the synopsis for the Game of Thrones spin-off series:
Based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood, the series will tell the story of House Targaryen (a.k.a. the House that gave us the Mother of Dragons herself, Daenerys Targaryen) and take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.
Miguel Sapochnik will serve as the showrunner with Martin and Ryan Condal. House of the Dragon stars Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, and Paddy Considine, Rhys Ifans, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, and Sonoya Mizuno.
