Scarlett Johansson’s lawsuit against Disney over Black Widow’s hybrid release has resulted in a mind-boggling payday for the superstar.
After tons of back and forth, Scarlett Johansson and Disney settled yesterday over Black Widow’s release. Tensions arose between the studio and the Black Widow star when the character’s solo movie hit Disney Plus via Premiere Acess on the same day it was released in cinemas, thus minimizing Johansson’s theatrical ressiduals. The lawsuit sent shockwaves around the industry, with many pundits and creatives supporting the Marvel veteran.
While core details on the settlement are murky, Deadline reports that Scarlett Johansson walked away with upwards of $40 million. Talk about an insane payday. The outlet also reports that the restituion will not be paid lump sum.
Despite the harsh back and forth between the two parties during the lawsuit’s early days, yesterday’s settlement statement were wholly positive. What’s interesting to note is that both parties indicated how they look forward to working together, with Disney confirming that the Black Widow star is still attached to produce Tower of Terror. Only time will tell if these are merely pleasentries to subside any chatter online or if the statements come from a genuine place.
