Aladdin star Mena Massoud is interested to play the DCEU’s Nightwing.
After his breakthrough performance in Disney’s live-action Aladdin remake, Mena Massoud is ready to join the DC Extended Universe. While he’s rumored to be appearing as Ezra Bridger in a live-action Star Wars project, Massoud has his eyes set on joining the DCEU as one of Batman’s sidekicks.
In an interview with ScreenRant to promote his upcoming animated film Lamya’s Poem, Aladdin star Mena Massoud revealed how he’s hoping to take on the role of Nightwing in the DCEU because of how unique and different the character is.
“I’ve been obsessed with Batman, but I think Batman’s kind of… it’s been done a lot now and it’s been done by some fantastic actors. I don’t think I can top them in that way, but Nightwing just has a really interesting story [that] hasn’t been done before, he’s a little bit younger. So yeah, he’s a character I’ve just always been drawn to.”
Nightwing hasn’t appeared in the DCEU yet and it’s unknown if there are plans for the Batman-associated character to pop up in the ever-expanding cinematic franchise. By the looks of it, Ben Affleck’s Batman is set to retire after The Flash, so it would be interesting to see how the DCEU could craft a Nightwing story without Batman. Now that the Aladdin actor has made it clear he wants to be Nightwing, maybe the heads at DC can conjure something up? Currently, Nightwing is played by Brenton Thwaites on the hit HBO Max series Titans.
Here is the official synopsis for Titans season three:
“Titans follows young heroes from across the DC Universe as they come of age and find where they belong. In season three, circumstances draw our heroes to Gotham City, where they will reunite with old friends and face new threats.”
Titans stars Brenton Thwaites as Nightwing, Anna Diop as Starfire, Teagan Croft as Raven, Ryan Potter as Beast Boy, Minka Kelly as Dove, Alan Ritchson as Hawk, Joshua Orpin as Superboy, Chelsea Zhang as Rose, Curran Walters as Red Hood, and Iain Glen as Bruce Wayne.
The third season of Titans is now streaming on HBO Max. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the series, Aladdin star Mena Massoud, and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
