Aladdin star Mena Massoud opened up about the speculation that’s going around that suggests he’s been cast in a Star Wars series.
Mena Massoud broke onto the scene in Disney’s live-action remake of Aladdin, which served as his feature film debut. The remake was a smash-hit at the box office and received decent reviews from critics but ultimately didn’t lead to many new roles for Massoud. That might change very soon as Massoud appears to be in the running for a pivotal Star Wars role.
Rumors have persisted for quite some time that Mena Massoud has been tapped to play Jedi Ezra Bridger, who debuted in Star Wars: Rebels. While nothing has been confirmed, the Aladdin star did post a photo of himself earlier this year with a caption from the young Jedi.
ScreenRant caught up with Massoud earlier this week to discuss his upcoming role in the animated film Lamya’s Poem. The outlet took the opportunity to ask the Aladdin star what exactly his Star Wars caption meant and if he’s actually in the running to play the live-action Jedi. It turns out that nothing has been confirmed as of yet – or he can’t spill any details – but the intention of the post was to manifest the role of Ezra Bridger.
“Yeah. Just manifesting, just manifesting, trying different things. Yeah, there’s not much more I can say about that, but, you know, I had heard murmurings that this role was coming up and this is becoming a real thing. So I just kinda wanted to throw my name in the ring and — yeah, just part of manifesting what you want. I think we live in an age now that’s so different than ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, Hollywood, where there was no social media. It was really just your representatives, putting things out there for you. But now, we have the ability to put things out there for ourselves because of social media and because we can put things out there. So yeah, I just wanted to put it out there, I guess… It would be a dream come true. Obviously, I’ve already had one of my dreams come true with Aladdin, but I also think I could just really do it justice. I’ve worked on that kind of big, massive set before on Aladdin. I think I have that under my belt now and thankfully the film did really well, so I think I’ve proven that I can be successful in that environment. I think it would just be a great opportunity to take everything that I learned on a set like Aladdin and implement it into the Star Wars or DC or Marvel universe. We’re talking about manifesting, so yeah, it would mean a lot, it would mean a lot. I think I would also do a solid job and work really hard. I like what they’re doing with that world and how they’re expanding the universe.”
Those who subscribe to the new age practice of manifestation state that the cardinal rule to get what you want is to know exactly what you want, and it looks like Mena Massoud has that covered. Ezra Bridger has been rumored to appear in an upcoming season of The Mandalorian, and potentially headline his own show, not unlike Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano. It’s unknown if the Aladdin star is on top of Lucasfilm’s list, or even if an Ezra Bridger appearance is concretely in the works.
The Mandalorian stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Temuera Morrison, Katee Sackhoff, Ming-Na Wen, Bill Burr, Timothy Olyphant, and Carl Weathers, with Rosario Dawson joining the series as Ahsoka Tano ahead of her spin-off series. The series was created by Jon Favreau and executive produced by Dave Filoni, with season two episodes also directed by Rick Famuyiwa, Bryce Dallas Howard, Peyton Reed, Carl Weathers, and Robert Rodriguez.
The Mandalorian is available to stream Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the future of the series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
