A new image from Marvel Studios’ Eternals puts the spotlight on Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo.
Eternals is the next big Marvel Studios film on the Phase Four slate and it’s a little over two months away after being delayed several times due to the pandemic. Leading up to the film’s release, one of the biggest stories has been Kumail Nanjiani getting in impeccable shape for the role of Kingo. Empire recently released a new image of Nanjiani’s Kingo all suited up that gives us another peek at his superhero look:
Based on the visuals glimpsed in the trailers, Eternals has already managed to set itself apart from its Marvel Cinematic Universe predecessors. Besides the new image of Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo, director Chloé Zhao also talked some more about her approach to a Marvel Studios film:
“Akin to stories of Greek and Roman gods, who live very human lives with human traits, rivalries, jealousies and frailties.”
A common complaint with past Marvel Studios films revolved around its villains. However, the studio has since turned that around with the complex motivations of Thanos, Killmonger, and most recently, Wenwu. Zhao teased Eternals will continue to explore that moral gray area:
“I loved the idea of continuing to challenge the straight-forward morality we’re used to in the superhero genre.”
Here is the synopsis for Eternals:
“When monstrous creatures called the Deviants, long thought lost to history, mysteriously return, the Eternals are forced to reunite in order to defend humanity once again.”
Chloé Zhao directed Eternals from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.
Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Kumail Nanjiani’s Kingo, the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
