Jason Momoa teased that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will up the ante in numerous ways.
The highly-anticipated sequel to Aquaman is currently in production, with director James Wan and star Jason Momoa back to bring DC Extended Universe fans Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The original film, which became the first DCEU movie to reach $1 billion at the global box office introduced audiences to Arthur Curry’s origin story and showcased some of the most exciting action set pieces we’ve seen in the franchise thus far.
Like with any superhero sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will up the ante in terms of the action sequences, but Jason Momoa also teased that upon reading the script, he giggled throughout and teased that there will be a lot of comedy in this film. He tells Fandango:
“We all learned something on the first one. It’s exciting because I haven’t made too many sequels. I just know that it’s, even on the page, it’s absolutely wonderful. There is so much going on. I think the stakes are a lot higher. There’s a lot of comedy. So, I mean, I giggled reading it. There’s a lot of fun, and definitely the action’s [bigger].”
Jason Momoa also teased that given advancements of technology in the last few years, the visual spectacle of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be even better this time around:
“I think just in the last three or four years, technology is constantly [evolving]…it’s just moving at such a rapid pace that what we’re doing with underwater [sequences], I mean, that’s what made the first one so amazing. It’s just gone on to a whole other level, so I’m excited for everyone because it’s just a lot more heart. There’s a lot more at risk.”
It’ll be exciting to see what Jason Momoa, James Wan and the rest of the cast and crew will bring with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. The film is one of the few that Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Films will be releasing in 2022, the others being The Batman, Black Adam and The Flash.
