Daniel Craig Doesn’t Think James Bond Should Be Played By A Woman

Longtime James Bond actor Daniel Craig doesn’t think that the character should be played by a woman.

The first James Bond film was released all the way back in 1963, making it perhaps the longest-running film franchise in history. The character was initially portrayed by Sean Connery before the role passed to others like Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, and, most recently, Daniel Craig. Craig made his debut as 007 in the franchise reboot Casino Royale and has gone on to play the character in three additional films with a fourth one on the way.

For some time now it has been made clear that the upcoming James Bond film, No Time to Die, would be Daniel Craig’s last at the character. The film was delayed several times amid ongoing concerns over the Covid-19 pandemic but is currently set to be released on October 8th of this year. This does, however, raise the question as to who will take over the role of James Bond once Craig leaves the role.

In a recent interview with Radio Times, Daniel Craig was asked what he thought of a woman taking over the role of James Bond. Craig responded with a no but because he felt that there should be a role just as good as 007 for a woman and that they shouldn’t be strapped to a character like his:

“The answer to that is very simple. There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”

Here is the plot synopsis for Daniel Craig’s next James Bond film, No Time To Die:

Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica. His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help. The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.

Directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, No Time to Die stars Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw, Lea Seydoux, Rory Kinnear, Jeffrey Wright, Rami Malek, Ana de Armas, Lashana Lynch, Billy Magnussen, David Dencik and Dali Benssalah.

No Time To Die is now scheduled to hit U.S. theaters on October 8, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news surrounding the franchise and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
