Kit Harington Turned Down A Superhero Role Before Joining ‘Eternals’

Eternals star Kit Harington has revealed that he turned down a superhero movie while he was filming Game of Thrones.

Marvel’s upcoming film Eternals looks like it will finally see the light of day. After several delays due to the impact of Covid-19, many questions still remain about the upcoming film. Most notably, it is unclear just how big of a role Kit Harington will have in the movie.

In the film, Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman who, in the comics, is the third character to hold the title of The Black Knight. Whether or not Harington’s character will take up this mantel is unclear nor if he will appear in any future Marvel Cinematic Universe installments. Oddly enough, this isn’t the first superhero role the actor was offered.

Thanks to his role in Game of Thrones, Kit Harington became a very recognizable actor. This new level of stardom got the attention of another major studio at some point and they wanted him in a superhero role. While speaking to Total Film, the actor revealed he was offered this role while filming Game of Thrones but didn’t reveal who the character was nor when this was:

“You know, the comic-book and superhero world has called once before, and I didn’t like the role and the part and the time to do it. So I turned it down. And then this one felt right to me. I liked that the character they were offering was not necessarily an Eternal. He was human. I did like that. I felt that I could do something with that, that he came with all these human faults. So it was the character that drew me to it, as well as it being the MCU, and how exciting.

I won’t mention what it was, but yeah, there was one other [superhero movie] that I did turn down a while ago. It was a while ago, as well – just because it didn’t feel like the right thing at the right time. And I think I was right to. My head was very in the Jon Snow world then.”

Chloé Zhao is directing Eternals from a script written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. The cast of the Marvel Studios project includes Gemma Chan as Sersi, Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, and Barry Keoghan as Druig.

Eternals is set to hit theaters on November 5, 2021. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming film and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original content.
